U.S. equities traded sharply
higher Thursday after the Bank of England hinted at looser monetary policy next
month and as earnings season kicked into full gear.
The Dow Jones industrial
average held about 150 points higher, with Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and
IBM among the top contributors to gains.
The S&P 500 rose about
0.6 percent and hit a fresh intraday high, led higher by financials. The Nasdaq
composite rose approximately 0.6 percent, as Apple shares rose more than 1.5
percent.
Meanwhile, earnings season
in the U.S. came in full swing, with JPMorgan Chase easily beating estimates
and BlackRock posting results in line with expectations.
Shares of JPMorgan rose
about 2.5 percent in late-morning trade, while BlackRock's stock slipped 0.2
percent..
