For the second day running, workers of the Ministry Of
Finance continued their protest, shutting down all entrances to the
headquarters of the ministry over unpaid N1.2billion special overtime
allowance.
A statement released
on Monday by the ministry
said the workers’ demands ,which were stopped
in 2014, do not exist in the Civil Service Rules and Financial
Regulations. But the workers have remained adamant to the explanation,
insisting on the payment of what they claimed are their entitlements.
On the first day of the protest, workers were allowed in the
ministry to do some skeletal services while the protest lasted, however, business
activities were on Tuesday completely paralysed as all the offices in the
ministry were shut.
The workers in their hundreds stayed out of their offices
from 8am when they resumed work and vowed not to attend to any official
assignment until the arrival of the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.
The workers vowed to either continue with the protest until
the Minister is removed or pay their allowances.
